Time of Decision

Almost everyone in Myanmar is a monk once in their life. Some are drawn to the monastery for a few weeks. Others for a lifetime. Many children come from poor families. They are cared for in the monastery. They also receive an education here. They learn the basic rules of Buddhism, mindfulness, abstinence and much more. But also maths, physics and English.

At the age of nine, boys in Myanmar can start their novitiate in the monastery. A good 90 percent of Myanmar's inhabitants are Buddhists. They take their religion and the teachings of Buddha very seriously, which is why the monasteries also fulfil an important social function. Orphans sometimes also find a home here.
