Relaxed Meeting

Amasya is characterised by well-preserved Ottoman half-timbered houses that almost tower over the banks of the Yeşilırmak River.

There are also Seljuk buildings, mosques and mausoleums as well as a Roman fortress. The city is an interesting mix of old and new and offers many beautiful corners. Amasya was the capital of the Greek Pontic Empire (approx. 300 - 70 BC). Long since plundered, the tombs of Pontic kings carved into the rocks by the river give an idea of the wealth and culture of the Pontus Greeks, some of whom emigrated to Greece and some of whom were Islamised. In the Middle Ages, the Mongols ruled and brought economic prosperity to the city. Today, the people live mainly from agriculture. | Turkey
