Fire, wind and time
Last rays of sunshine in the evening: the Rose Valley in Cappadocia is a geologically fascinating landscape in the Göreme National Park, characterised by volcanic tuff that has been shaped by erosion over millions of years. Its reddish and pink rocks owe their colour to iron-containing minerals that have oxidised over time.
The valley features typical Cappadocian rock formations, including fairy chimneys, caves and tunnel gorges shaped by wind and water. The Göreme National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also home to numerous volcanic deposits and soft sedimentary layers, which were easy to work and enabled the construction of numerous cave churches and living quarters. | Turkey
The rock formations are amazing. It’s a truly stunning landscape.
