Turtles in the garbage

Patara Beach is a breathtaking, 18-kilometre-long sandy beach that is not only known for its unspoilt nature, but also as a breeding ground for endangered sea turtles. However, growing tourism is threatening this fragile ecosystem. Despite protective measures, light pollution, illegal construction and careless visitors are disturbing the turtle population. Plastic waste and water sports activities are also jeopardising the wildlife. While tourism brings economic benefits, the question arises as to whether nature conservation really has top priority - or whether profit interests are destroying this paradise in the long term. | Turkey

  1. I increasingly believe that tourism and environmental preservation are fundamentally incompatible.
Sooner or later, tourism inevitably leads to the annihilation of everything it touches.
