Sea under your feet

Vernazza is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast of Italy. With its colourful houses, the small harbour bay and the impressive Doria fortress, the village exudes a unique charm. However, Vernazza is no longer an insider tip - especially in the high season, numerous tourists flock through the narrow streets every day.

The hike from Monterosso to Vernazza is one of the most beautiful and popular routes in the Cinque Terre National Park. The approximately 3.5-kilometre trail leads over steep steps, narrow paths and through lush vineyards. Along the way, there are breathtaking views of the turquoise-coloured sea and the dramatic coastal landscape. If you undertake the hike in the early hours of the morning, you can enjoy nature in peace before the crowds arrive. After around 1.5 to 2 hours, you will reach Vernazza, where you can reward yourself with a refreshing drink at the harbour - if you can still get a seat.
