Through the wall of fog

The island Madeira is a hiking paradise, during our tours it only rained and was quite cool, but nevertheless it did not keep us from stomping through the green, foggy and windy island. The most popular hiking trails are paths along the Levadas, which cross the whole island in a 2000 km long network.

The term levada refers to irrigation channels on the island, which transport water from the rain-laden regions in the north and centre of the island to the agricultural areas in the drier south | Portugal
