Colorful eyes on the Mediterranean
Montemarcello is a small village in the municipality of Ameglia in the Liguria region, located about 266 meters above sea level.
The village is located on the ridge of the Caprione promontory and offers, from several viewpoints, a wide view over the Ligurian coast, the sea and the valley of the River Magra, as well as the hills and mountains beyond.
Historically, Montemarcello dates back to a Roman settlement, which was probably named after the consul Marcus Claudius Marcellus. In the Middle Ages, the town developed into a small fortified village that was ruled by various regional powers, including the Bishopric of Luni and later the Republic of Genoa. Parts of the old fortifications and the medieval structure of the town centre have been preserved to this day. | Italy
