The alley for the palate

I call it the restaurant alley, from the archway to the next plaza the restaurants vie for the many tourists, especially at lunchtime it was not so easy to get a seat.

Évora, a historic city in the Alentejo region of Portugal, is renowned for its rich culture and gastronomy. The cuisine of Évora reflects the traditions and rural character of the region.

Typical dishes include "Açorda Alentejana," a hearty bread soup with garlic, coriander, and olive oil, often served with a poached egg. Another highlight is "Carne de Porco à Alentejana," a combination of pork and clams, seasoned with garlic and paprika.

In Évora, you will also find many regional cheeses, such as the creamy "Queijo de Évora," as well as a variety of sausages that pair perfectly with a glass of the local red wine. The wines of the region, especially the robust reds, are highly regarded and contribute to the overall gastronomic experience.

Local restaurants and taverns offer an authentic atmosphere where visitors can savour the traditional flavours of the region. Dining in Évora is not just a culinary journey but also an opportunity to experience the hospitality and culture of this charming city. | Portugal
