Real World?
A look down from the Burj Khalifa not only reveals the breathtaking splendour of Dubai's skyline, but also raises critical questions about urbanisation and social inequality. While the gleaming skyscrapers and luxurious hotels portray a city of prosperity and progress, the reality remains hidden for many of the workers who have made this splendour possible.
Many of these workers come from poorer countries and often live in precarious conditions, far away from the glittering facades and tourist attractions. The extreme consumption of resources and the environmental impact of the constant construction and maintenance of such megaprojects also raise questions about sustainability and the ecological footprint. The view from the Burj Khalifa shows a city of extremes, where wealth and poverty, progress and exploitation lie side by side. | UAE
