Sukhothai literally means -morning-gray of joy-. The city was declared the capital of the Siamese kingdom in 1238, which in its heyday was much larger than today's Thailand.

Sukhothai was the capital but only for 140 years. In 1378, Sukhothai was part of the Siamese Kingdom of Ayutthaya. Today, the city is only capital of the same-titled province | Thailand

    I would like one day to visit these cities “lost in time”. I think they are magnificent. Better than today’s modern cities.
