Historic site in the Peloponnese: The entrance to the stadium in Olympia. | Greece
After the excavations in 1961, the stadium was restored to the shape it had taken in the 4th century before Chistus. The entrance for the athletes was a vaulted passageway that led from the altis under the western visitor wall. The ancient measurement of the length of a stadium was 600 feet, corresponding to a length of between 176.50 and 197 metres, which varied from region to region. During the competitions, the athletes ran in the direction of the altar of Zeus, i.e. in the direction of the altis. (Source: Wikipedia)
And all of us, we can walk these paths, and be athletes of Olympus.
